My story at LEONI
Hello, my name is Rubí González, I am thirty-three years old, and I am an Environmental Engineer. I joined LEONI in 2017, and every August 14th I celebrate it proudly. I am very happy to have completed these seven years; I am currently in the HSEE area.
How did I get to LEONI? It’s truly a beautiful story and I believe it should be motivating in the sense that second chances do exist, just like the saying: “everything in its own time”, in the first process, I was not selected, and of course, when you find out, you think about many things, like what you did wrong or what you lacked. However, I was told that my resume would be kept on file for future opportunities, which I honestly didn’t think would happen, but they did!
During these years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to grow alongside this company. When I started, I was only focused on the environment, but the department also includes safety and health. Little by little, I became more involved and learned more.
Currently, I see safety, health, environment, and we are getting into the topic of energy efficiency and clean energy, implementing projects that have less impact on the environment, this excites me a lot because I think our department is key to carrying out these initiatives and guidance.
This is my job
Every day I arrive at LEONI I always say “good morning” to everyone who crosses my way and especially to my colleagues from other areas, I like the mix we have in the shared area; we spend great times together, and sometimes we exchange work ideas or ways to solve complex situations, including whether we are going to cut a cake for someone's birthday.
I usually check my e-mails, task for the day, scheduled meetings, and review with the interns their doubts to advance in our projects.
I almost always go out for lunch at 1:00 p.m. The table I sit at is very diverse as I share with colleagues from engineering, logistics, and quality, whom I consider my friends and my chosen family.
My highlight
One of the most unforgettable moments at LEONI was when I won the CARE value in 2022, the employees nominated you, and the five finalists for each value were determined through votes. For me, the most important thing was not the prize, but the happiness of knowing that there are people who appreciate what you do to care for them, protect them, and make sure they return home safely.
LEONI has helped me develop new skills and even improve those I thought I had mastered. A particular challenge was controlling my emotions in difficult circumstances, where you have to learn to take a deep breath, act with emotional intelligence, and find solutions.
My view of LEONI as an employer
For me, LEONI has been a crucial part of my personal and professional growth, I value that it is an international company and that we have been able to share with different cultures when we receive visits or support from other parts of the world.
I feel the HSEE team solid and stable, Isabel Madrid, my direct boss, always supports and guides us to be better, she always lets us grow and contribute.
I would describe LEONI as strong, united, and challenging. Strong because of all the periods of growth and learning that we have gone through during these seven years, united because many of us are still here from the beginning and working every day better as a team, and challenging because there is not a day that is the same as another, because there is always something new to learn and difficulties to solve.
My tips
I share with you, according to my point of view, the qualities that a person must have to be successful in LEONI: positive, responsible, tolerant, and patient, always putting into practice teamwork, communication, and initiative to solve problems.
If you are someone who is starting at LEONI, I assure you that it is a great opportunity for learning, growth, and space to meet new people, a pioneer field of the automotive industry in the southeast of Mexico.
