My story at LEONI
Hello, my name is David Francisco Martínez López, and I have been working at LEONI for five years. I am a Mechatronics Engineer, and I joined LEONI thanks to a friend who informed me about available job openings.
Currently, I hold the position of Design Leader. I began my career at LEONI as a 2D/3D designer, after searching for work for two years after graduating from the Instituto Tecnológico de Hermosillo (ITH). In that role, I was responsible for creating 2D designs and preparing quotes for the same harnesses. Over time, seeking to grow within the company, a new project for a new client was presented, and that’s when I had the opportunity to be promoted to leader in 2023, which was a big step in my career.
This is my job
As Design Leader, my current tasks include providing accurate quotes for harness production and ensuring that what is charged is exactly what is produced. Additionally, I perform functions such as administration, risk decision-making, and I am responsible for training and development. I share the responsibility of delivering documentation on time, fostering a healthy work environment, and supporting the development of my team.
What excites me most about my job is all that it contributes to society. What we do at LEONI, especially the project I was part of, contributes to children having safe school buses, as well as other vehicles such as trailers that impact infrastructure development in communities.
If we talk about the impact of our work, it is that we are the first link in the chain that verifies the client's information, and our role determines the safety of the parts and what the production plant should buy. We are customer problem solvers with the plant, and we seek quick and effective solutions to avoid delays in production timelines.
This is my job
My workday begins, whether at the office or at home, no doubt with a cup of coffee, while I check my emails and Teams. The first activities are to update the status of the previous day and check the scheduled meetings. I also focus on the goals I need to solve during the day.
At lunchtime, I try to share with my team and enjoy a moment together. In the afternoon, I cross off completed activities and prepare the status for the next day's activities. Finally, I check that there are no pending emails or messages and close my day.
My highlight
One of my most memorable moments at LEONI has been being promoted to Design Leader, an achievement that I considered difficult to achieve. I have faced challenges, especially in my personality, but also in the professional aspect. Since I joined the company, I have been maturing and evolving. I thank my mentors who have supported me in this process, since the biggest obstacle is sometimes ourselves. Another of my great achievements has been to formalize the educational agreement with the Instituto Tecnológico de Hermosillo (ITH), acting as a bridge between this institution and LEONI. The support that the company has given us translates into numerous development opportunities and a safe work environment, which allows us to focus on our personal and professional growth.
My view of LEONI as an employer
LEONI is special to me because it offers new beginnings without judging lack of experience. I value the empathy shown towards its people. The work culture is based on collaboration, and within my team, trust and a focus on common goals are fundamental. If I had to describe LEONI in three words, they would be: collaboration, trust and empathy.
My tips
To succeed at LEONI, I believe qualities such as responsibility, patience, gratitude, respect, and sacrifice are essential. My advice for those starting at LEONI is that if they really want to grow here, they should not despair, maintain their integrity, and always stay one step ahead in new technologies.
